Hornets 2-2 JFC Boughton

The windy conditions which whistled across the Waverton pitch did not
prevent some excellent play by the Hornets. Playing with the wind behind
them in the first half the Hornets lashed Boughton with wave after wave of
attacks only to find the Boughton keeper in terrific form.Rob and Mike both
went close and Adam hit the post. There was some excellent passing and
movement and all the players distributed the ball well.James A went close
and made a number of great tackles and passes.

When Boughton did manage to get out of their half Will and Olly made sure
there was no way through with Will in particular playing with plenty of
aggression and control. Totally against the run of play Boughton went ahead.
A quick break out and the Hornets inability to clear the ball left the
Boughton forwards time to score.

The boys stuck to their task and a superbly taken corner by Mike found James
H loitering at the far post to head home a great equaliser. The hours of
pratice had paid off at last. Further chances went begging and it would not
have been an unfair reflection of the game if the boys went to half time two
or three goals to the good.

Playing against the wind in the second half posed more problems and the
Hornets soaked up a lot of pressure before a speculative looping shot gave
Jamie no chance to give Boughton a 2-1 lead. The boys showed great resolve
in their attempts to claw back an equaliser. Jamie pulled off an outstanding
save to keep the boys in the game and with the minutes ticking away the
Hornets won the ball in defence. Mike set James H into space on the right
wing. Oblivious to the calls from the touchline to square the ball into the
middle James calmly slotted home from a narrow angle for a well deserved
equaliser.

Notwithstanding the requests for the ref to blow the whistle Boughton had
one more chance to score. A long range shot from the kick off sailed wide of
the post. A great game of football for which all the boys deserve a lot of
credit.
