Hornets 3-1 Nomads

A cracking game of football between two very evenly matched sides. There was
very little between the sides in the early exchanges and only some resolute
defending from Will and Olly kept the Nomads attack at bay. Michael was a
dynamo in midfield. He covered nearly every blade of grass on the pitch in a
terrific display. There were some good passing between Michael, James H and
Adam but the final pass was not quite good enough to trouble the Nomads
keeper. Shortly before halftime Mike was brought down about 25 metres out.
He took the resulting free kick which was too much for the Nomads keeper.
The ball was spilled and Adam seized on the ball to slot home from close
range.

Nomads continued to press for the equaliser and only a last ditch tackle by
Rob and some great keeping from James A prevented an equaliser.

James H replaced James A in goal and produced two great saves. He was left
with no chance from a resulting corner when a sharp near post header flew
past him. Nomads continued to press but the defending was strong. James H
continued to be involved in the game with a miscued goal kick which went
straight to the Nomads striker. The resulting chip looked destined for the
top corner only for James to leap like a gazelle to parry the ball to
safety.

A quick break out following a Nomads attack sent James A free in midfield. A
neat pass sent Michael into space and a cracking shot made it 2-1. Shortly
after the restart Michael turned provider. He broke down the right to send a
great cross to James A who took one touch before slotting the ball home for
a 3-1 lead.

Many opponents would have had their heads down at this stage but Nomads came
back into the game and were unlucky not to score a second when the ball came
back off the post. There were a few more goal mouth scrambles as Nomads
piled on the pressure. Good defending and a bit of luck saw the Hornets home
for a great start to 2008.

Michael was MOM for one of the best individual displays of the season. The
rest could not be separated for team player.
