Blacon Youth 5-4 Hornets (Friendly)

A titanic battle at Cairns Crescent ended with the Hornets just missing out
in an exciting end to end contest. James H started in goal and made some
good early saves before the Hornets got into their stride. Some good passing
football lead to some good chances for the Hornets but our front players
were unable to take advantage and the Blacon keeper was in fine form.

The Hornets then endured a horror show from a Blacon corner. The ball was
swung high toward the back post and with the whole team watching anything
but the ball and the Blacon attackers the ball was headed in for a 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later it was a case of deja vu. A replay of the first goal was
played out to send Blacon 2-0 up. Gone are the days of heads down and
capitulation. The hornets rallied with a fine individual goal from Dan V who
lashed the ball into the corner of the net with a true rugby players toe
poke. Inspired by the goal the Hornets drew level with Mike coolly finishing
a good passing movement.

Our new players Dan and Joe made solid starts for the team with Dan
producing some great tackles and passing and Joe unlucky not to get on the
score sheet. Both players looked as if they had been with the team for a
long time.

The second half was again very even with Will and James A putting in some
great challenges and distributing the ball well. The Hornets decided to
press for the lead and exposed the defence on two occasions and within
minutes Blacon were 4-2 up. Rob then scored the third direct from a
corner(big assist from the Blacon keeper). With apparently little time left
to play an inspired change of formation saw James H push into attack and
with his first touch he shot into the roof of the net to draw level at 4-4.
The game was apparently up and it was not until the 10th minute of added on
time that Blacon broke quickly and scored the winner.

As always against Blacon a great game of football played in a terrific
spirit.
